Description:
Grettis saga ("The Saga of Grettir") is one of the Íslendingasögur, "sagas of Icelanders," and is also a part of a sub-genre of "Outlaw sagas." It is about the life and death of Grettir Ásmundarson, the most famous outlaw in Icelandic history, who is said to have survived outlawry for nineteen winters, the longest of any Icelander. Although the version of Grettis saga that survives has a relatively late date of composition (early 14th century), there are many references to Grettir in earlier works, indicating that the character was well known before the saga as we have it was composed or compiled.
